AUTO-BIOGRAPHY
My life through cars I’ve owned.
2000 Mk 1 — 1966
Came with overdrive and a floor kick switch for the headlights. Upgraded to a 2500 engine. Once caught fire while I was driving. Another time it lost a wheel while I was driving. The road had a groove in it for the next year.
Herald 13/60 — 1970
Ridiculously underpowered I replaced the engine with a Toledo twin carb 1500. Always had a problem with the differential. Angle-grinded off part of the chassis by accident. This car could turn onto itself (tighter turning circle then a London street cab). The Marilyn Manson of cars.
Defender — 1992
They didn’t sell many of these without power steering. I can testify why. No way to miss arm day when you had to drive this lummox. Also the turning circle was the opposite of the Herald. This car wouldn’t even be able to compete on a NASCAR track. Three point turns? Try 15 point turns.
Spitfire Mk IV — 1973
Managed to crash it twice due to the spongy brakes. Ever seen a 6 foot 6 man drive one of these? Imagine a bear riding a tricycle.
2000 Mk 2 — 1972
First love. Crashed this as well when waving to another Triumph owner. It was a lady on the open road but it used to throw tantrums when driven inner-city. Spent entire weekends under this fixing the clutch.
